Suffolk's economy has been boosted over the last six months to the
tune of nearly £400,000 because of filming and media opportunities
taken up in the county. The media industry is an
important part of Suffolk County Council’s strategy to maintain a
strong and dynamic jobs market.

Increased finance for Credit Unions in Suffolk
Citizens Advice Bureaus and the Credit Unions are benefiting from
additional financial support as a result of the successful Economic
Summit which occurred in Suffolk before Christmas. The additional
finance, provided by Suffolk County Council, will enable the
Citizen Advice Bureaux to respond to a sharp increase in the demand
for advice.

Rural Pubs can benefit from advice and grants
Under the Suffolk Rural Economy Scheme, rural public houses can
benefit from fully funded business support and a grant of up to a
maximum of £5,000 to help them diversify their business to include
services such as a grocery/newsagent shop in order to serve their
local community.

Additional £75,000 Help for Post Offices in Suffolk
Additional help is available from Suffolk County Council to support
Post Offices in the county who are closing, or have closed as part
of the Post Office review of services.

Small one-off grants will be awarded to shops in rural areas,
which can demonstrate sustainable economic community benefits.

Enterprising Communities
The Rural Economy Scheme is working with Suffolk ACRE to
identify and support 10 communities who have a new project to
create a sustainable community business or service.

Small businesses in Suffolk benefit from Fire Advice
A number of local authorities have successfully lobbied the
Government to change guidance for providers of accommodation in
small premises. The council and many other partners in
Suffolk saw this as unreasonably burdensome for small businesses.
