Appointments and telephone contacts
If you call before 10 am you can normally get an appointment
with, or talk to Dr Thomas, the practice nurse, or an associate
doctor, on the same day. Please let us know if you cannot keep a
booked appointment so that another patient can see the doctor or
nurse. Apart from a 30 minute lunch break from 1 pm, the dispensary
and reception are open Monday - Thursday 8.30 - 5.00pm and Friday
8.30-7pm.
Home Visits and emergencies
If you are too ill to come to the surgery please telephone as
early as possible and tell the receptionist the nature of your
emergency. Often this will initially be dealt with by a phone call
from a doctor who can always be contacted between 12 and 1 pm.
Overnight and Weekends
If you require urgent advice or treatment from us when the
surgery is closed you can contact the practice team as normal using
832832.
Out of hours NHS services can be obtained directly from by
phoning SufDoc on 01473 299622, or via NHS direct on 0845 4647
The Practice
We offer a comprehensive medical service including:
Emergency medicine
Preventative medicine.
Chronic illness management.
Family planning.

Minor surgery
Travel advice and vaccinations
Childhood immunisations
Attached Midwives and Health visitors hold their clinics on
alternate Tuesdays
All areas of the premises are accessible to wheel chair
users.
Dispensary and Prescriptions.
No need to take your written prescription to a distant pharmacy
as we offer a fully computerised dispensing service to those who
request it.
The dispensary is open weekdays between 8.30am-5pm and we can
normally fill prescriptions at the time of consultation.
Repeat prescriptions, which we can normally dispense in 24
hours, can be ordered in person, by telephone, by fax (830200), by
email to Repeat Persription or, of course, by
post.
Please allow 48 hours for email requests or if you require a
written prescription.
Practice Staff
The practice works as a team, with clinical, managerial,
administrative, secretarial and reception staff who, alone, have
access only to information essential for your care. You can access
your own records but information about you will not be disclosed to
others without your written consent.
Practice Nurses hold clinics on:
Mondays 9:30am – 2:45pm
Tuesdays 9:30am – 2:45pm
Thursdays 9:30am – 5:00pm
Fridays 9:30am – 12:30pm
For immunisations, dressings, ear syringing, blood pressure
monitoring, health promotion etc. Jo Jessup also offers
contraceptive advice and cervical smear tests.
A trust midwife works closely with Dr Thomas and holds
her antenatal clinics every Tuesday from 08.30 and can be contacted
at the hospital on 01473 713334.
Health visitors specialise in the care and development of
babies and young children. Their clinics are held on the 2nd and
4th Thursday of the month from 2 to 3.30pm and they can be
contacted on 01473 242159.
Community Nurses visit the homes of patients who need
nursing services but who are too unwell or frail to come in to the
surgery. Let us know if you need them.
Suggestions
We regularly monitor the service we provide and are willing to
adapt in response to requests where possible. Your ideas and
suggestions are welcome. If you are pleased or unhappy about any
aspect of the care we provide, please let us know.
Students
Medical students, junior doctors and nurses learn about primary
care in our practice. They may be present during your consultation
but only with your permission.
Courtesy
We aim to be as courteous and as patient as possible at all
times and appreciate when this is reciprocated. We understand that
medical matters can cause anxiety but we cannot tolerate abusive or
threatening behaviour in any form.

We accept that we may fail in our attempts to provide the

complaints service. If you need to complain do not hesitate to let
us know of your concerns.
Friends of The Gipping Valley Practice
We have an active friends group to focus activities associated
with patients and help raise funds for items of equipment that may
be needed by the practice
Practice Area
We are located in the Claydon area and while currently based in
temporary premises we offer a unique personal service and accept
patients from most local areas.
We limit our official NHS practice to the area on the map
below.
