The Block 4 Board of LAA1 ran from April 2006 through to March 2008.  The Board is currently acting in an interim capacity until the new delivery partnerships and governance structure for LAA2 are established.

FelixstowePortatNightThe membership of the board reflected the breadth of the subjects under its jurisdiction: skills, employment, economy, enterprise, housing and infrastructure. The targets established were all successfully met (and in some cases exceeded) with the exception of three targets where a base line was not available.  For further information please visit the performance page.

The Board successfully championed the alignment of the Investing in Communities Programme (now known as Economic Participation Programme) into LAA1 which subsequently led to the decision by EEDA to devolve the programme management and co-ordination directly to top tier Local Authorities accountable for LAA1.

economicdev1The Board through the lead partnership of the SCC and Job Centre Plus successfully achieved two Local Public Service Agreements helping single parents and people with disabilities into employment.  This success will draw down further government bonus funding.

The Board successfully commissioned £200,000 of performance reward grant funding for projects that will contribute to the broad outcomes of the block.  The details of these projects can be found elsewhere on this site.

Through consultation, the Board influenced the development of the new European Competitiveness Programme by seeking close alignment with LAA1 outcomes.  This subsequently led to EEDA (managing body for the European programmes) requiring that submitted projects are aligned to LAA outcomes and that each area submitted a plan of eligible projects which met LAA and Community Strategy aims.

Finally, looking to the future, the Board were able through the consultation process on Suffolk's Community Strategy 'Transforming Suffolk', to take responsibility for framing the prosperity outcomes and took a lead role in developing the economic strategy for the county: 'Expanding Suffolk’s Horizons' managed by the Suffolk Development Agency.
