The Safer Stronger Sustainable
Communities Block Board 2 was formed under the Local Area
Agreement 1. The Board ran from June 2006 to June 2008
and its aim was to have an impact on improving the quality of
life enjoyed by local people. Work was undertaken with
local people to build safer, stronger and more sustainable
communities. Funding streams were brought together to help
reduce crime, tackle anti-social behaviour and improve public
spaces.
This was underpinned by the involvement and empowerment of local
people in decision-making and delivery of services which helped to
ensure that local services were more responsive to local needs in
deprived neighbourhoods.
