Welcome to Long Melford, a large village with a population of
about 4,500, situated on the Suffolk/Essex border, twelve miles
south of Bury St. Edmunds.
The village boasts a large mediaeval wool church, two Tudor
stately homes and a large village green. Facilities include a
primary school, a playgroup, a village hall, a community centre, a
post office, several pubs and restaurants, hotels, antique shops,
galleries and women's clothes shops.
Melford also has a large choice of groups and associations that
meet on a regular basis and provides for the needs of the
community. These include football and cricket (adult and
youth teams / coaching), Friends of the Group offering Scouts,
Cubs, Beavers, Guides and brownies, Over 60's, yoga, dancing, W.I,
Royal British Legion and many more.

Long Melford Street
Fair
This popular annual event will take place on Saturday
19th July 2008, 6:00 til 10:00 p.m. and is located in
Hall Street, Long Melford. A road closure will again be in place
from St Catherine's Road to Bull Lane and will run from 5pm till
11pm
The event includes music, dancing, entertainment, food stalls, mini
funfair, charity stalls, craft stalls and a Grand Draw.
Anyone who can help in any way with the organizing of this event,
either before or on the day is welcome to join the Committee. (you
don’t have to be a Parish Councilor to be on this committee) or if
you have any ideas you would like to share with us, please contact
the
Clerk.
