Our next concert is on Saturday, 20th March. See details under Concerts.

Phoenix Singers is an amateur choral society that was founded by musician Malcolm Russell in 1976. We are based in the historic and lively market town of Framlingham in east Suffolk. With a choir of some 70 mixed voices we perform three concerts a year, mainly of sacred/liturgical but occasionally secular music, using the space and fine acoustic of St Michael's parish church. Sometimes we combine forces with Aldeburgh Music Club to perform a major work in the renowned Maltings concert hall at nearby Snape. Additionally, Phoenix Singers give a Christmas concert of music and readings each year in St Michael’s.

For most concerts the choir engages professional soloists and a small orchestra of mostly professional musicians, with the aim of giving a high standard of performance. Normally, a professional pianist accompanies our summer concert.

Our 2009/10 season's programme began with a stirring performance of William Walton's great oratorio Belshazzar's Feast in The Maltings when we joined forces with the choir of Aldeburgh Music Club with the Prometheus Singers and Orchestra. For the spring concert of music by Purcell and his contemporaries we shall welcome Jon Hutchings, from Framlingham College, as our Guest Conductor. By contrast, a popular Romantic work will be our contribution to the Framlingham Arts Festival in the summer.thephoenixsingers
