Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat

This performance was part of the UK Tour of this well-loved musical and the show opened with the narrator (Emily Green) telling the story of Joseph and his coat of many colours  to the children.

We were then introduced to Jacob (Henry Metcalfe) and his sons. There was plenty of energy, colour and comedy, especially from the pop up sheep at the back of the stage just before Joseph (Craig Chalmers) made his appearance. Craig was one of the finalists in the BBC series Any Dream Will Do and he certainly warranted his place in this production - his singing was clear and sharp and he bought a boyish charm to the part.

A special mention also to Chris Dilley who played one of Joseph’s brothers, Levi. He looked as though he was thoroughly enjoying himself and his enthusiasm made me chuckle.
Although the stage was quite small for such a large production the use of sliding stairs and clever lighting helped to set the scenes.

As musical entertainment, it was fantastic and the time flew by very quickly. For me, the only downside of an otherwise great show was the fact that I thought Antony Hansen did not quite hit the mark singing as Pharaoh. At times it was difficult to hear him over the music, however his speaking lines were great.

The Joseph Choir - Children from Broadland Youth Choir and Blofield Primary School - were excellent and very well behaved.

The Show ended with the entire cast singing “Joseph Megamix” which was great, although my Nanna who was sitting next to me thought it was a bit loud!!
This has always been my favourite musical and despite having seen it five times it  did not stop me going away singing all the songs - but then they are so addictive!
If you like musicals and you get a chance to see this production then I would highly
recommend it.
