Domestic
abuse
Shielding Policy for ContactPoint.
In order to further protect children from abuse and to ensure a
swift professional response in the identification of risks to a
child when a parent is experiencing domestic abuse it has been
identified that quick and effective access to pertinent information
is essential where families are transient across the UK.
ContactPoint hold pertinent information on professional
involvement which is accessible nationwide, therefore reducing the
time spent by professionals tracking case responsible history and
relevant information. All information is securely stored with
appropriate password protection and unique identification
numbers.
The draft policy outlines our responsibility for notifying the
ContactPoint Team of any children whose details require shielding
on ContactPoint. The arrangement for this are set out below.
Shielding prevents the whereabouts of a child being
identified. A shielded record will only display the:
- ContactPoint unique identity number;
- child’s or young person’s names;
- their gender; and
- their date of birth.
ContactPoint Regulations allow for individual children’s records
to be shielded if the fit into one of the categories below:
where a practitioner has reason to believe that not doing so
is likely to:
- place a child at increased risk of significant
harm;
- put a child’s placement at risk e.g. looked after or adopted
children
- place an adult at risk of significant harm, and/or
- prejudice the prevention or detection of a serious
crime.
