What is the difference between an Adult Safeguarding referral and a welfare referral?

An Adult Safeguarding referral is made to report an abuse of a vulnerable adult.   referral form     A welfare referral is where the person may be in need of services from Adult and Community Services but has NOT been a victim of abuse.  If in doubt please contact an Adult Safeguarding Manager for advice   contacts page

If I make a referral will the Police take over?

No - they will work at your pace

What should I do if I think someone is being abused?

Discuss with your line manager. Make sure that you share your concern with someone.

Complete a referral form,   go to our referral form page or call Customer First (number on the referral form page).     

                          
What is abuse? 

 A
buse will include all forms of harm and mistreatment. It is a violation of an individual’s human or civil rights by any other person or persons.  It is a single or repeated act or omission, occurring within a personal or other close relationship where there is an expectation of trust, which causes harm to a vulnerable adult.
                                  
What does the term vulnerable adult mean?

The adults covered by the Suffolk Adult Safeguarding  policy and procedures are all those within Suffolk who are over 18 years of age, and who are, or may be, in need of community care services. For example: People with a mental health problem or mental illness (including dementia),  People with a physical disability, People with drug and alcohol related problems,  People with sensory impairment.  People with a learning difficulty.  People who have a physical illness.  People with an acquired brain injury.  People who are frail.  Family carers providing assistance for a vulnerable person
