New-look SNTS
Following a review of the Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT) in Suffolk, the number of teams has been reduced from 47 to 30. Mid Suffolk South and Mid Suffolk West have been merged to create the Mid Suffolk South SNT. This site is in the process of being updated to reflect the changes.
This reorganisation has had no overall effect on the number of Police Officers and PCSOs in frontline policing.
Why has the number of teams been reduced from 47 to 30?
An internal review took place between September 2007 and February 2008 to look at how SNTs were working and developing. This highlighted that the teams have made great progress in their first year, and the public have been very supportive of their local teams.
However, some changes for improvement were identified, and after consultation with partners, certain proposals were put to the Police Authority, which were agreed and include:
* The merger of some SNTs into larger geographical areas, meaning a reduction from 47 to 30 teams. This reorganisation has had no overall effect on the number of Police Officers and PCSOs in frontline policing.
* A new policy to ensure SNT officers maximise the time they spend in their local community for their geographical area.
* Giving each SNT a police sergeant dedicated to managing the team’s resources and partnership processes to ensure an efficient and effective service.

"At last - The Mobile Police Station.
Suffolk Constabulary and the Mid Suffolk Local Strategic Partnership have joined forces to fund a new mobile Police Station and took delivery of the vehicle on 27th August. The idea is for the station to visit villages that do not there own station thereby allowing members of the public who cannot access a local station to pop in and chat to their local officers from their Safer Neighbourhood Teams in relation to local issues.
It will be parked close to local amenities e.g. shops, libraries or village halls whilst also being on hand to attend local village functions e.g. Combs Village fete on 6th September.
There will be various leaflets on display on crime prevention, plus there will be shed alarms, ultra violet markers, counterfeit note detection pens and personal safety alarms available for purchase.
