Sibton remains an entity in its own right despite the growth of
nearby Peasenhall during the Victorian period when Smyth’s Drill
Works brought work and prosperity to an otherwise totally
agricultural area. Sibton still has its local public house, the
award winning White Horse, and a nursery school which is in the
same building as the original village school. It relies on
Peasenhall for its post office . Nevertheless there are
various small enterprises in the area which continues to flourish
as a community. At its highest point Sibton is the site of the East
Anglian Ozone monitoring station and when ozone levels are
broadcast Sibton often features on the national News!
Sibton retains its close
links to neighbouring Peasenhall and the two parishes have
worked together to produce a joint Parish Plan.
As in many Suffolk villages there is a pressing need for affordable
housing.
Local schools are Peasenhall Primary, federated with Middleton,
Chairman of the Governors Gaye Wilkinson 01728 660232 and
Sibton Nursery School, telephone 01728 660200.
Community amenities include Village Hall, Playing Field, Bowls
Club and Tennis Club. Other organisations include Womens
Institute, Under Fives Group, Carpet Bowls, First Responders and
Youth Club.
The Parish Council has produced a Welcome Pack for newcomers with
local contact
information.
