These have been written to assist you as you move through the framework. Click here to download a copy of the Guidance notes
· Training:
Based on feedback from groups engaged in the process it has been possible to identify training needs. Ways in which we have been able to support the training needs of organisations are varied as the following examples show:
1. In some instances we have been able to signpost organisations towards training that may meet their needs
2. We have been able to design and commission specific training courses where the need and funding allow. For instance, we commissioned two level 2 AQA accredited courses in Risk identification and Risk Management – specifically linked to risks associated in providing services/activities for children and young people.
3. We have been able to introduce organisations to a Workforce Development Mentor, able to provide a bursary and detailed identification of training needs.
4. Where appropriate priority places are given to groups committed to the Quality Standards process on training courses we are involved in.
You can find more information on training on the Training and development section of our website.
· Updates and information:
Alongside the usual information received by members of Young Suffolk groups involved in Quality Standards will receive a quarterly update on emerging practice, news and changes in legislation etc that directly impact on them.
We appreciate that your time is precious and it can sometimes me difficult or frustrating trying to find specific information. If you have particular need of specific information you can always approach your Support Worker who will do their very best to get the answers for you.
· Peer review panel:
The Peer review panel is set up to ensure that all groups experience equal treatment through out the review process. Panel members have achieved the quality standard themselves and understand the process intimately. They are also drawn from a wide section of VCS groups and as such bring a rich mix of knowledge skills and experience. The exception to this is the Chair of the Panel ,Suffolk Youth and Connexions Service as they are a key funder and keen supporter of the VCS and the process. They are also impartial and able to bring a different perspective to the proceedings.
Follow this link for the Panels Terms of reference and find out who’s who on the panel.
· Suffolk SCB and Suffolk CC recognition
In 2008 Suffolk County Council and Suffolk Safeguarding Children Board officially endorsed the Young Suffolk Quality Standard. Not only does this acknowdledge the effectiveness and impact of the standard but it also helps to open the door to funding for groups who have achieved or who are working towards the quality standard. For more information on funding click here.
· Annual Self-review:
Nothing ever stands still! Time, tides, progress etc and youthwork and organisations are no different. Feedback from groups who have taken part in the Quality Standards process echo good practice from elsewhere. They don’t just want to put the work into achieving the framework then wait three years to see how it has evolved and then update their portflio again. In addition to their own regular reviews of their policies and procedures it has been agreed that groups will complete an annual self-assessment of their organisation linked to Quality standards.
The big bonuses are….
1. doing the self-assessment as you review your own procedures etc means you can update your portfolio as you go, making it a living document - up to date and reflecting the current position of your organisation. This also helps when you are going for funding or want to show a parent etc what you do to keep your service safe.
2. You can see where the framework is developing – it is reviewed annually to ensure it reflects best practice. You can meet any changed or new indicators in the framework as they happen. You do not have to wait three years. For instance where there is new legislation or requirements that come out since you achieved the standard you can update your organisation in a timely manner.
You also have more opportunity to feedback emerging areas of concern or good practice to us more regularly which means we keep the framework up to date and relevant to your needs.
3. After three years when your Quality Standards Award expires you will only have a small amount of work to do to meet the new framework and then achieve your renewed Quality Standard Award.
· Peer Support:
Not only do you get the benefit of having a dedicated Support Worker to guide you, the wider skills, knowledge etc of Young Suffolk but we can also link youy to another group whose own experiences may be able to support you through the process. You may have a specific need or challenge and a Peer Support could help you with this. Or you may just appreciate having a kindred spirit to speak to and learn with. Ask your support worker for more information if you are interested.
Equally, you may be willing to support a group through the process and share your experiences with them. Evidence shows us that both groups and individuals benefit from this mutual arrangement.
