Explanatory Notes

joinusThere are two types of membership.  You can either become a FULL or an OBSERVER member.  Either way, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Please bear in mind that however complicated it may inititially sound, it isnt!  We actively encourage any group or organisation that wants to support young people in Suffolk to join us. If you don't fit all the criteria needed now, we have the means to help you get there and carry on with what you do best - working and supporting young people in Suffolk.

FULL members are either:

  • Self governing voluntary youth organisations which have been in existence for at least a year, which publish an audited (or independently examined) statement of accounts and which subscribe to the objects of Young Suffolk or;
  • Youth sections of other agencies which youth sections subscribe to the objects of Young Suffolk

Full members appoint TWO representatives to the Young Suffolk Council, each of whom has one vote

PLEASE NOTE that affiliated youth clubs (reference Young Suffolk constitution, point 5a) or groups cannot become members of Young Suffolk in their own right (e.g. ‘Suffolk Scouts’ is a member representing all its groups; individual Scout groups are not eligible to join. ‘Suffolk Clubs for Young People’ is a member on behalf of its affiliated local youth clubs.

OBSERVER MEMBERS

  • Make up not more than one-third of the Young Suffolk Council
  • Appoint only ONE representative to the Young Suffolk Council, who has one vote

BOTH FULL AND OBSERVER MEMBERS

Annual Subscription

The annual subscription is £25 per annum for each member organisation. The amount is set by the Young Suffolk Council at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) each year. For any organisations that are unable to meet this cost, a possible reduction in the subscription, or payments by instalments, can be considered following a letter of explanation.
