The Community Champions Fund has been a brilliant small funding scheme for
coalface voluntary groups and charities doing great work– it was financed by
The Department for Education and Skills and is due to close in March 2008.
Please help stop this happening by adding your support to the petition to save Community Champions.
The petition was created by Dorothy Newton and reads:
'We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to ensure
Community Champions awards continue to give active individuals
the opportunity to do extraordinary things and make a real
difference in their communities.'

Introducing a name for the Information Sharing Index
The national Information Sharing Index, part of the Every Child Matters programme to improve outcomes for children, is to be known as ‘ContactPoint’, with immediate effect.
ContactPoint will provide a quick way for those working with children and young people to find out who else is working with the same child or young person, making it easier to deliver more coordinated support. It will be available to authorised staff who need it to do their jobs.
The website www.everychildmatters.gov.uk/contactpoint/ will include updated information about the tool, including the ContactPoint Fact Sheet.
For more local information please contact: Alice Redfern, Suffolk County Council, ContactPoint Implementation Manager e: Alice.Redfearn@cexec.suffolkcc.gov.uk

Another chance to make a difference:
Children & Young People's Services in Suffolk have drafted a Performance Handbook which has pulled together a wide range of information and performance data around the five Every Child Matters Outcomes, linked to the priorities identified in the Suffolk Children and Young People’s Plan.
A rich picture has begun to emerge from this wealth of information which it is hoped will inform and support the review of the Children and Young People’s Plan over the next few months. But even at 106 pages, this draft is incomplete because it still needs lots of input from the VCS!
Please click here to read the plan. Please click here for the proforma to submit your suggestions to by the end of March for a the revised April edition.

Sept 2006: A Message from County Councillor Ben Redsell: Suffolk County Council
No-one listens to young people? Let’s change that!
Local Democracy Week puts the spotlight on tomorrow’s voters. The aim is to connect, involve, enthuse and engage young people with Local Government and local politics.
In Suffolk we want young people to tell us the ONE THING they would like the county council to do for them over the next year.
How?
By building a democracy wall on Thursday 19 October at 7:00pm @ Endeavour House, Ipswich!
By encouraging young people in your group to take part, write
their views on the brick and send it in!
By not allowing the
Council Leader, Jeremy Pembroke, to go past the wall until he has picked
ONE IDEA to take
forward!
CONTACT: Vicky Smy t: 01473 264396 for your brick!
It’s a real chance for young people – from right across the county to talk face-to-face about the issues that most affect and concern them.
After the building of the wall we’ll bring all the young people together in the Council Chamber for a group discussion about all the ideas you have put forward. This will be an opportunity to hear how the council makes decisions and about the budget process. We will also give you a few tips on how to take forward ideas to politicians in the future.
Afterwards all participants will also receive a goodie bag!
In summary Hold a discussion in your group as soon as you can and get the views written on the bricks.
Agree who will ‘officially’ represent your group on Thursday 19 September. (But as many as are interested are more than welcome to come along and watch the wall being built and join us in the council chamber.)
If you have any questions please contact Vicky Smy on
