Young Suffolk is dedicated to the quality of its services and
providing high quality training opportunities to support Suffolk’s
children and young people’s workforce. We are an Accredited OCN
Centre.
Introduction to Safeguarding Children and Young
People
Group 1 & 2

Venue

You provide the venue for this ‘in-house’ training. You will need a
minimum of 12 participants and a maximum of 20.
We can open this course up to other local groups if we need to
reach the minimum numbers.
Description:
This interactive practical
introductory course will raise your awareness of the need to
safeguard children and young people and identify safe working
practices. It will equip you with skills, judgement, knowledge and
confidence in recognising and responding to signs of
abuse.
Key
questions you will be able to answer at the end of the session
are:

are the signs and symptoms of child abuse?

How do you respond appropriately
to child protection issues, and know what to
do when a child is being or suspected of being
abused?

What are the local and national
policies and procedures for safeguarding
children?
Suitable for:Full
time/ part time paid staff or volunteers, aged 18 or
over.
Including members of statutory,
voluntary, independent and community organisations. If you fall
into either Group below this training is for you!
Group
1
Staff in infrequent contact with
children, young people and/or parents/carers who may become aware
of possible abuse or neglect.
Group
2
Those in regular contact or have
a period of intense but irregular contact, with children, young
people and/or parents/carers who may be in a position to identify
concerns about maltreatment. For example, community youth groups,
faith groups, play scheme volunteers, housing, hospital staff, YOT
staff and staff in secure settings, the police other than those in
specialist child protection roles, sports development officers,
disability specialists.
Course
Fees:
The course is heavily subsidised
at £10 per person for VCS groups, £15 for other
organisations through funding secured by Young Suffolk. A
certificate of attendance and workbook are included.
Introduction to the
principles of youth participation
How to empower young people to exercise their right to be
heard
Description: This FREE
interactive and practical introductory 2 hour course will raise
your awareness of the benefits, key principles and practices of
effective youth participation. It will also support you in
identifying and planning activities based on young people’s and
identified community needs.

Suitable for:Anyone,
including Parish and Town Councillors and their associates who are

NOCN Level 2 Award in Youth Work Practise
This interactive, practical Award includes both evening class and
youth work setting based coursework and reflection. This NOCN Level
2 Award has been designed and developed to ensure that people
working in youth work settings can access relevant training that
will equip them for their role as Assistant Youth Support
Workers.
Learners can combine the three level 2 courses we offer in order to
achieve this Award*.

Safety
For those who wish to take their study further they can undertake
additional modules and achieve the NOCN Level 2 Certificate in
Youth Work Practice.
It is also a foundation for the NOCN Level 3 Award and Certificate
in Youth work practice.
Learners are strongly recommended to complete the New! Introduction
to youth work course first before undertaking the other courses.
Learners can do all three courses or only 1 or 2, the choice is
yours. However, if you wish to do the Award learners MUST complete
the New! Introduction to youth work course.
What will the courses be like?
The groups are limited to a maximum of 16 learners with two
training staff.
Learning will be interactive using both large and small group work.
It will include opportunities to learn from your own and each
other’s experiences as well as being Tutor lead. Learners will
complete a Learner Workbook including written assignments and a
Learning Journal as evidence for assessment.

Suffolk County Council - Tender Process Training
Suffolk County Council is working in partnership with Young
Suffolk, SAVO and the Suffolk Children’s Trust Integrated Training
Program, to offer training free of charge about the tender process.
The training is provided to support local organisations to tender
for service contracts with Suffolk County Council.
Course Outcomes
1. Increase your understanding and knowledge of the tender
process
2. Increase your confidence in your ability to complete the
tender
process effectively
