What’s your
V?
The Young Suffolk vinvolved team is keen to hear from young
people about their experiences of volunteering and what they think
might be done to make volunteering more appealing to more young
people.
A Youth Action Team
has been recruited to help us carry out a consultation with young
people into this. If you would like to be part of the team (and
receive free training and expenses) contact

Professionals
working with young
people
In April 2008, v the
National Youth
Volunteering Charity (tasked with implementing
the recommendations of the Russell Commision), launched the
vinvolved programme which “rebrands, reforms and expands
Millennium Volunteers”.
Young Suffolk has secured three years funding to
deliver youth volunteering opportunities aimed at young people aged
16-25.
vinvolved is a very different programme
to that which we delivered under the Millennium Volunteers
contract. MV traditionally saw volunteering coordinators plan and
design volunteering opportunities which they then recruited young
people into.
vinvolved teams have adopted a youth led
model of delivery which places young people at the centre of
developing youth volunteering so that there is an expansion of
volunteering support available to organisations and young people
alike in line with Recommendation Three of the Russell Commission
Report.
vinvolved Teams are based in every local
authority area and London borough so that young people and
organisations can access the same high quality support, advice and
guidance.
Young Suffolk’s vinvolved team champions
youth-led action by:
a) Creating new volunteering opportunities
across all sectors:
Working strategically to support organisations
that-
• Are encouraged to offer volunteering
opportunities for the first time
• Want to include young people in an existing
volunteering programme
• Want to expand their volunteering programme to
young volunteers
The vinvolved team will:
• Support and develop local and regional
networking. Click
here for news on forthcoming networking
events.
• Provide training and capacity building to
organisations enabling them to engage and work with young people
effectively. Click
here for news on forthcoming training events.
• Undertake awareness raising activities and
youth-led project development
• Encourage partnership work and the sharing of
best practice to create a vibrant youth volunteering community
• Work with new and existing organisations to
develop new volunteering opportunities for young people
• Ensure that young people from diverse
backgrounds have the opportunity and are actively encouraged to
volunteer

b) Brokering young people into opportunities:
In response to young people’s passions, cares
and interests, vinvolved Youth Volunteering Advisors are
there to offer information, advice and guidance on how to get
involved in a wide range of volunteering opportunities.
If young people have a particular idea for a
volunteering project, then the vinvolved Youth Volunteering
Advisors are there to support you in getting the young person’s
ideas off the ground.
The vinvolved team also supports agencies
that offer services to young people so that new volunteering
opportunities can be created that are appealing to young
people.
c) Championing youth-led action
Each
vinvolved team will recruit Youth Action Teams, made up of
young volunteers who will help to develop, influence and support
their activities.
What is a vYouth Action
Team?
A Youth Action Team is a group of young people aged 16-25 who will
help
develop, influence
and support local vinvolved team activity.
Youth Action Team
activities might include:

people to volunteering activities
• Undertaking
community surveys to seek views on what matters to young people and
what differences they would like to make

• Getting feedback
from young people on their experiences as volunteers
• Raising awareness
of the difference young people are making through volunteering
